Nominations are now open here.

[livejournal.com profile] rarepairsupport is available for people who would like to coordinate their nominations/pimp their fandoms, etc.

- Each person can nominate five fandoms and six relationships per fandom.

- Nominated relationships can also include threesomes/moresomes.

- Crossover nominations are welcome. Please nominate them under the fandom "Crossover Fandom" and include in parenthesis the fandom for each individual in the pairing (ex. Harry Potter (Harry Potter)/Sherlock Holmes (BBC Sherlock)). Crossover nominations made under a single fandom (ex. nominating Harry Potter/Sherlock Holmes under the Harry Potter fandom) will be rejected, and we will not move them.

- Real person fiction (RPF) may be nominated with the following caveats:
a.) Nominated characters must be 18 or older.
b.) Living non-famous persons may not be nominated (for example, someone's wife or child).

- Original Works can be nominated.

- All nominations for Hulk, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man/2/3, Captain American: The First Avenger/The Winter Soldier/Civil War, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, the Avengers/Age of Utron, and all the Marvel One-Shots will be grouped under the Marvel Cinematic Universe tag.

- Daredevil, Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, and Jessica Jones should be nominated separately from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Relationships where at least one character appears only in the movies and at least one character appears only in the TV series should be nominated as a crossover.)

- All nominations for New Who and Classic Who will be grouped under the Doctor Who tag. (This does not apply to Torchwood and other stand-alone spin-offs.)

- Please use AO3's new categories when nominating X-Men movies (X-Men (Original Timeline Movies), X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies), Wolverine (Movies), Deadpool (Movie)).

- All Dragon Age games should be nominated under Dragon Age (Video Games).

- Marvel (Comics) and similarly board categories (an author's complete works, etc.) will not be accepted as fandom nominations as they are too broad. Please try to make a more specific/narrower fandom nomination. Please try to avoid the "All Media Types" fandom tag. A good rule of thumb is that if you have to specify in your details what version of a character you're after, the category is too broad.

- We will post an updated list of rejected nominations.

- If you feel like something was rejected that shouldn't have been, there will be an evidence post where you can provide details as to why it should be allowed.

If you have any questions about nominations or need an AO3 invite, please don't hesitate to ask.

My apologies if this has already been answered somewhere, but a quick scan of recent posts didn't show anything: does the number of works tagged (to determine eligibility) include all fics in all languages, or just English-language fics?

Thank you!
Jun. 1st, 2016 03:35 am (UTC)
All languages.

When nominating pairings for Marvel comics, do you want people to use the tags for Marvel 616, Marvel Ultimates, etc, or would that still be considered too broad? Some of the pairings that I want to nominate don't fall under an individual title.

We're going to leave that up to people to do what they think works best.

Is it possible to see what's already been nominated, so we can avoid duplication and keep the format the same?
Jun. 1st, 2016 04:29 pm (UTC)
Nominations are visible. We just haven't reviewed any of them yet. I'll start shortly.

Are pairings eligible if they have less than 250 fics in the nominated incarnation, but over 250 fics in total? For example characters who exist both in a book series and in a movie adaptation, comics characters that exist in different universes and so on?

Meaning, could I nominate A/B (movie) if there are under 250 movie fics about them, even if A/B has more than 250 fics if you count fics for both the movie and the book the movie is based on?

This is really a case by case thing that we look at, so I can't give you a hard and fast rule. If the book canon and movie canon are relatively similar we would look at them combined rather than just one or the other. Like book and movie Hobbit nominations would not count separately, and would be something we'd likely combine under all media types. However, something like comic Hellboy ships and movie Hellboy ships would not be counted together.

The above post was not me, but I have a related question. I'm planning to nominate Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and some of the ships I'm looking at are very popular outside that show, like Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov and Steve Rogers/Tony Stark. This issue came up during Yuletide as well and I wrote a meta for how the cartoon itself and several individual characters are different enough from their movie and comic incarnations to be considered a fandom apart, though I realize relationships may need to be considered differently than individuals. No ship within this fandom is over the 250 fic limit; there are, in fact, only 173 works above that limit in the fandom itself. I can link to my meta if you need evidence.

*edit* If it helps they accepted the show and several extremely popular characters- Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, and others- for Yuletide.

tl;dr, can I nominate these ships specifically in this cartoon fandom that was not associated with the movies and was aimed at kids aged ~7-11?

We've read your post. The biggest issue with this is that while it might be nominated in good faith, we feel that there is a high chance that people would abuse it and try to sneak in MCU which is far from rare. We apologize, but won't accept nominations for either of those ships.

:( I get it, and I'm assuming the same about Winter Soldier/Steve. However, I'm wondering if I could sneak in Bruce Banner | Hulk/Clint Barton? In this series, it's sort of flipped from MCU, and Hulk is a full-time Avenger with Banner appearing in like three episodes, and Hulk has a huge BroTP with Hawkeye. I'm asking about this one specifically because Bruce Banner/Clint Barton in the MCU fandom has 476 works.

I'm also planning on nomming Bruce Banner | Hulk/Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov and Clint Barton/T'Challa, but since those have 28 and 0 MCU works respectively, I wouldn't expect that to be a problem.

Thank you for your patience with my favorite tiny fandom which, let's be real, no one else is going to care about anyway :/

Bruce/Clint would be acceptable.

There's an & relationship under Dragonlance (Flint Fireforge & Tanis Half-Elven) -- is that a mistake?
Jun. 2nd, 2016 09:26 pm (UTC)
Yes, it's been fixed. Thanks!

Hi - I noticed that all my nominations seem to have gone through (thanks) except for the ones I nominated for the TV show American Horror Story: Freak Show (relationships Pepper/Elsa Mars and Jimmy Darling/Dandy Mott). Were those rejected for some reason or is this still in progress (sorry to bother you if it is). If they have been rejected please let me know why and I'll fix things. Thank you!

We only see a small random assortment of nominations at a time, so we haven't reviewed it yet.
Jun. 2nd, 2016 11:47 pm (UTC)
That's good to know, thanks for the information! :)

I see that there is a long list of ineligible pairings under "Sherlock Holmes (all versions)"; do these ineligible pairings also all apply for Elementary?
Jun. 3rd, 2016 11:06 pm (UTC)
No, Elementary is considered separate.

Excellent! Thank you

Crossover fandom question
So I'm trying to nominate a crossover fandom ship but the tag is not there? Should I just put Multi-fandom or?
Jun. 3rd, 2016 11:07 pm (UTC)
Re: Crossover fandom question
Put in Crossover Fandom as the fandom. The ship should be in this format: Harry Potter (Harry Potter)/Sherlock Holmes (BBC Sherlock).

I nominated a couple of pairings with female versions of the mercenaries in the Team Fortress 2 fandom and was excited to see them approved - but it looks like my nomination of FemScout/Sniper (an f/m pairing) was automatically synced with the existing nomination of Scout/Sniper (an m/m pairing) because the two tags are established synonyms in AO3.

I get that AO3 considers them one and the same, but for the purposes of requesting and offering here, is there any way at all to include both?
Jun. 9th, 2016 02:42 am (UTC)
It's been added.
Jun. 7th, 2016 12:14 am (UTC)
You probably already know about this, but a huge number of pairings have wandered away from their fandoms, including all my Sandman noms.
Jun. 7th, 2016 12:44 am (UTC)
No need to worry. They haven't wandered, we just haven't associated them yet.
Jun. 7th, 2016 12:56 am (UTC)
Excellent, thanks for the info.

Not sure if you're dealing with duplicate nominations yet or waiting until nominations have closed, but I thought I'd let you know that I just spotted a couple of duplicates under Shadowhunters (TV):

Lydia Branwell/Isabelle Lightwood (Shadowhunters (TV))
Lydia Branwell/Isabelle Lightwood (Shadowhunters)

Simon Lewis/Isabelle Lightwood/Raphael Santiago (Shadowhunters (TV))

Hi mod,

Would you prefer that True Detective gets nominated as True Detective, with ships from both seasons under that category, or should I specify True Detective Season Two (as has been done in some other exchanges, e.g. Yuletide) and nominate my season two ships under that, similar to how American Horror Story is nominated as discrete seasons?

The main reason I'm asking is actually because I'd really like to nominate a cross-season ship between one and two, and would like to know if that needs to count as a Crossover Fandom, or just a rare pair in one fandom.

I know that it can make offering 'any' more tricky when seasons are combined, but I'm wondering if that might not be too much of a problem here (unless there is another nominator who is planning on coming to nominate a lot of season one ships...).

Thank you for any advice :)

There's an & pairing in the Penny Dreadful section. I wonder if the nominator meant to use a /?

Brona Croft | Lily Frankenstein & Victor Frankenstein
